How to Get Glutathione in Your Diet

Diet Coke Nutrition Facts How to Get Glutathione in Your Diet.

What foods facilitate the production of glutathione in your body?

What is glutathione? Glutathione is a tipetide made up of three proteins-- L-cysteine, glycine. and glutamate. Glutathione is a substance that is in every cell of your body. Glutathione is the guardian of your cells from the moment you are born and until you take you pass away. With insufficient glutathione you die. Production of glutathione is crucial for your cells to be alive and for you to be alive.

But can you just eat the right foods to produce your own glutathione?

If you lived in an environment where you had minimal stress, no toxins or pesticides, had great sleeping habits, didn't eat junk foods, minimal radiation and so on this would be possible.

Protein Power Life Plan, is a book, written several years ago by two physicians. They say, "We can't take it so we got to make it," referring to the fact that because the stomach acid breaks glutathione, as a supplement. apart we can not take it and it never gets into the blood stream much less into the cells themselves where it is needed.

"Although plants contain a generous quantity of antioxidants and antioxidant like substances, the most abundant antioxidant we have in our body we make ourselves and it's called glutathione and we make it from three amino acids, one which is cysteine (a sulfur containing amino acid)." Cysteine is the limiting one as it is in short supply.

Where can cysteine be found? Primarily it is found in a meat based diet-not in a vegetarian diet(except as noted below)--which explains why vegetarians and or vegans often have a suppressed immune systems.

"Glutathione is a muti-functional antioxidant and a whole lot more. One of its primary antioxidant functions is to recycle vitamin C."

Vitamin C's job is to neutralize free radicals. This is done by Vitamin C taking an electron from the free radical. The result is that vitamin C then becomes a free radical itself since it has an extra electron. However, it is a benign free radical--not capable of doing harm but no longer a functioning antioxidant.

To be recycled again and become an antioxidant, vitamin C must get rid of the extra electron. This is done by passing it along to glutathione. However, if there's insufficient glutathione, vitamin C cannot be utilized further, is dormant, and useless.

When glutathione takes this electron from the benign vitamin C, vitamin C is regenerated once again to become an antioxidant. As long as you have sufficient glutathione, massive doses of vitamin C are unnecessary as the glutathione continues to recycle the vitamin C which we get normally from fruits and vegetables.

"Glutathione also gets rid of hydrogen peroxide."

Hydrogen peroxide comes from fats damaged by free radicals. Damaged fats easily react with a mineral such as iron to produce hydroxyl radicals (OH-), "the hydroxyl radical, the most dangerous and unstoppable free radical of all. Glutathione gobbles up these peroxides before they have a chance to create the hydroxyl radical." That's the power--glutathione's power.

Glutathione is also a detoxifier-especially in the liver where the sulfur containing portion of glutathione combines with many toxic substances like mercury, lead, bismuth, cadmium and so on to neutralize them. They are then escorted to the kidneys for disposal in the urine. With an increase in glutathione and a lot of toxins with which to deal sometimes the kidneys can't get rid of the toxic waste fast enough resulting in a build-up of toxic waste in the bloodstream. The result is the typical detox reactions of headache, flu like symptoms, nausea, skin rashes and so on until the toxic waste is eliminated from the body.

Toxicity is not limited to heavy metals but also includes pesticides and drugs-both illicit such as marijuana, coke, and so on but also legal drugs such as alcohol and acetaminophen (the common pain killer found in Tylenol). The toxins damage the liver because "these substances deplete the liver of its protective glutathione allowing a build of liver poisoning toxins."

Strenuous exercise also drains the body of glutathione? This is because certain exercises increase the metabolic rate; and when this happens free radicals are the result--the more vigorous the exercise, the higher the level of free radicals that are being produced. Proportionally the levels of glutathione are depleted.

This is why sore throats, colds, and other respiratory infections are typical for long distance runners. And this is magnified by those who "avoid a meat based diet in the mistaken notion that a vegetarian diet is more helpful for them."

Anyone who engages in exercises of long duration must increase glutathione levels by consuming sulfur containing amino acids as found in meats and eggs; and by taking alpha lipoic acid which recycles your glutathione.

In summary, diet wise to produce glutathione, eat meats and eggs. Egg yolks are high in sulfur and its best not to scramble them as scrambling causes oxidation of the sulfur in the egg yolk rendering it useless before you eat it.

Selenium is also necessary to boost glutathione. It is found in meats, sea food, broccoli, onions and so on.

With regard to vegetables, those high in cysteine are leeks, red peppers, garlic, broccoli, and brussel sprouts. Other foods are wheat germ, granola, yogurt, whey protein, and cottage and ricotta cheese.

Intravenous injections can also boost glutathione but glutathione is a large molecule and it's difficult for it to traverse the cellular membrane to get into the cell where it is needed.

Whey protein has cysteine but you have to take a lot which brings calories. Immunocal is a glutathione accelerator based on this approach, however, it's a drink high in calories with only about a 20% boost.

Within the last four years a new product has been discovered--a double blind clinical study placebo controlled crossover study demonstrates that it boost glutathione production in the cells by 276% over a two week period of time.

How to Eat Out and Remain Healthy at the Same Time!

Diet Coke Nutrition Facts How to Eat Out and Remain Healthy at the Same Time!.

Eating out does not have to involve Fast Food Restaurants, oversized portions of pasta, and many refills of Coke. In fact, there are things that you can do to make eating out part of your nutritious diet. Fast food restaurants as well sit-down restaurants serve meals that are high in calories, fat, saturated fat, and sodium, not to mention the large portions. This does not mean that eating out can not be nutritious; it just means that making wise meal choices and becoming an educated consumer will help you enjoy a nutritious meal and the social interactions that an outing with friends brings.

Most restaurants and fast food chains offer low-fat items on their menus. Eating in moderation is very important when eating out. Some simple choices you can make in choosing meals from a menu in order to remain healthy are:

Drink diet beverages or water instead of regular drinks that are filled with calories

Avoid whole-milk lattes and other coffee drinks with cream/whipping cream; instead choose low-fat or skim milk

Do not eat appetizers that are breaded, fried, filled with cheese or meat. It is a good idea to skip the appetizer completely, or replace the main meal with a healthier appetizer

Choose broth-based soups instead of cream-based soups

Order meat that is grilled or broiled, not fried or breaded; choose lean meats such as chicken, turkey and fish, instead of pork and red meat

Avoid dishes with cream sauces and a lot of cheese

Choose salads with dressing that is served on the side ( low-fat or no-fat)

Do not finish your meal, take the rest home (restaurant servings are usually oversized)

Order fresh fruit for dessert, skip it or share with a friend

Instead of potatoes and rice, order steamed vegetables

It is very important to ask about the lower-fat menu items of the restaurants and their nutrition information. Looking at nutrition facts will let you know roughly how many calories you are consuming and if what you are eating is actually a meal rather than what the restaurant portrays as a "meal". Another way to stay healthy when wanting to eat out is to check out restaurants before actually going there; knowing in advance of the meals the restaurant offers will give you a good idea on how healthy the restaurant actually is.

Eating healthy while out with a couple of friends is difficult to do, but definitely possible. Keeping fried foods and energy-rich appetizers and desserts to a minimum and choosing menu items that are smaller in portion size will help you maintain a nutritious diet while eating out. In addition, choosing items with steamed vegetables and meats that are grilled or broiled will allow you to enjoy a night out and wise meal options.

How To Diet, With Our Hectic Life

Diet Coke Nutrition Facts How To Diet, With Our Hectic Life.

The hectic pace at which most people live in the twenty-first century is not one that easily lends itself to regular intake of nutritious meals.

Rather, active adults today are more likely to "graze", that is, picking at a variety of foods throughout the day. Unfortunately, many of these foods are high in fat, salt, and sugar.

However folks, the facts are in. Overweight and obesity have reached an all-time high and give no evidence of abating in the near future. And the price we're paying for this lifestyle is high.

It's even higher when we realize the effect that our bad eating habits are taking a toll on our kids as well. When children, whether toddler or teen, start eating better meals with less focus on snacks that are not good for them. the benefits are almost immediate. They'll feel better, have more energy, be less cranky, and perhaps, do better in school.

The best way to diet for adults and kids is to consume a broad variety of foods so as to ensure balance and to maximize nutrition. Sometimes our reluctance to get started is merely an issue of not knowing where to start.

Following are a few pointers to give you a head start:

- Go for whole grains. Pitch the bread products made with highly processed white flour. The vitamins have been stripped out of white bread during processing. Sometimes an attempt is made to replace the vitamins and nutrients removed by processing, but it is impossible to duplicate the vitamins and minerals that occur naturally in whole grain products.

- Children need protein to grow and to be healthy. Provide a variety of lean meats including beef, pork, lamb, seafood, chicken, turkey, beans, and cheese). The kids don't need much; just the equivalent of about 2-3 ounces of lean meat or 1/2 cup of beans at each meal.

- Sugar sweetened drinks are killing us. Some of our youngsters are getting half of their daily allotment for calories in sugar-sweetened drinks...drinks that are nutritionally wanting...cokes, punches, sweet iced tea, etc.).

- Opt for water whenever possible and milk with meals for kids.

- Watch your portion sizes. Studies have shown that many times we are eating two, or even three, times the amount of food we should be eating. We don't need that much food, folks.

- Eliminate "mindless eating" by turning off TVs and video games and computers whenever you are eating (goes for your kids too).

- We're munching all the time and often we're so engrossed in something else, we're not even aware we're eating...a bad habit that you really should stop.

- Resolve today to begin to eat in a healthier manner and to teach your family the basics of good nutrition too. That is the best legacy you could leave for your family.

How Cheeseburgers Cause Cancer

Diet Coke Nutrition Facts How Cheeseburgers Cause Cancer.

Cheeseburgers, or more specifically, the typical cheeseburger meal with the accompanying fries and a Coke, are an accurate metaphor for the dangers inherent in the Standard American Diet (SAD).

This diet, heavy in protein, carbohydrates and heated oils produces an acidic residue upon metabolism by the body. Science tells us that the natural, healthy state of the human body is alkaline, which means a blood Ph of about 7.365. The Ph is a measure of the acid/akaline balance in the body. The unique marvel that we call the human body, demands an alkaline state to function correctly.

So what happens when almost everything we eat or drink produces acid, eventually tipping the body's Ph levels to a reading of 7 (acidic) and below.?

These acid fluids in your body burn and damage all components of the body, from impairing electrical signals between various parts of the body, to causing the immune system to malfunction. Among other horrors, this SAD cheeseburger diet is thought to be one of the most common causes of cancer. This is how it works and what you can do about it.

In the high acid, low oxygen environment produced in our bodies by the Standard American Diet, certain enzymes in the mitochondria of the cells, which are the furnaces where oxygen is burned and converted to energy for the cell, break down or become denatured.

This is enough to kill most cells, but certain cells for reasons that are not clear, revert to a primitive nutritional program to sustain themselves. In the absence of sufficient oxygen, they produce energy by converting glucose to energy via fermentation.

One of the by-products of fermentation is lactic acid. This acid adds to the current acid load and further lowers the cell pH and destroys the ability of DNA and RNA to control cell division and the cells begin to multiply unchecked. In other words, become cancerous. The acid simultaneously causes intense local pain.

Normally, your body is protected from cancer by your immune system which routinely dispatches "killer" cells to attack and devour cancer cells. In fact, a well functioning immune system is the best defense against cancer. It detects the newly minted cancer cells and destroys them immediately.

However, acidosis impacts the immune system also, weakening it and allowing cancer cells to grow and thrive. Note that in areas of the world where the water is highly alkaline; the Caucus mountains in Russia, the Hunza area of Pakistan, Lourdes, France, there is virtually no cancer among the local people and they outlive the rest of us.

In 1933, Dr Otto Warburg was awarded the Nobel Prize for demonstrating that cancer cells died when the Ph of the blood was raised, made more alkaline, reversing the acidic nature of the blood.

Vegetables and fruit, unlike most other foods; meat, dairy, grains, etc. tend to make the body more alkaline as well. Most other foods, meat, dairy, grains, processed foods, etc tend to increase the acidity of the body.

The question then, is there a way you can fight and even halt cancer by making your body more alkaline?

Yes, there is!

There are other factors to be taken into consideration, both as causes and treatments that are beyond the scope of this article, but the basic protocol is this:

Switch to an alkaline diet of 70-90% vegetables and fruit. Eliminate soda and fried foods. Drink 2 to 3 quarts of water daily, preferably alkaline water, if you an afford it.

How can you immediately tell if you are becoming more alkline? Check your urine. It should become lite to colorless. The darker your urine, the more acidic you are.

I mentioned that acidosis attacks all parts of body. As your body becomes and stays alkaline, you will be amazed at the results you will achieve. Everything from the elimination of asthma and other allergies, control of your diabetes, more energy and a positive outlook on life, the easing or elimination of arthritic pain, etc.

Leave the cheeseburgers to your unhealthy friends.

How Can I Get Pregnant You Can Regardless Of Age Or Infertility Issues!

Diet Coke Nutrition Facts How Can I Get Pregnant You Can Regardless Of Age Or Infertility Issues!.

"How can I get pregnant?" is a plea many women are making in every corner of the globe.

This heart-wrenching cry of desperation is especially relevant in these times as infertility in both men and women is rising rapidly.

The thought that a woman will not be able to hold a baby in her arms would be devastating for many that have dreamed of becoming a mother since they were little girls. Knowing that the man she loves will never be able to kick a ball with his son or take his daughter shopping for dolls and clothes would be equally disheartening.

This is a time when many couples choose to give up and look at adopting instead. Not knowing all the options they have is generally the reason this happens as well as being somewhat skeptical of the many pregnancy programs and books on the Internet promising the earth. That is indeed fair enough as having a baby is a very sensitive issue and no woman wants to get involved in something that will lead to more disappointment.

When I began my journey with holistic medicine I was determined to share with the reader the most proven and genuine facts that would help to get pregnant I could find. The facts are getting pregnant does not have to be complicated in fact it can very simple and inexpensive. It must be such a shock for many couples when they find how expensive modern fertility treatments are. With an IVF program costing up to $13000.00 per cycle many people would feel helpless knowing it was well out of their reach.

So before you call it a day because you have been told your infertility is "mysterious', go through the process of donor eggs or adopting a child let me tell you a piece of GOOD news.

It is possible to get pregnant whether you are 40 or suffering from an infertility problem such as endometriosis or ovarian cysts (PCOS). Now I did say possible because at the end of the day you can make this happen yourself. The secret to success is to first become determined that you will conceive. In other words get your mind-set in place, as a strong attitude will move mountains where modern medicine often fails.

Next take a really good look at your lifestyle and think about what could be preventing you from getting pregnant.

What does your diet consist of? Are you eating junk food or fruit, vegetables and whole-grains? A healthy baby is not only born out of LOVE it requires good nutrition to get past the first hurdle, which is conception.

I recommend you add supplements such as zinc, selenium and the all-important folic acid (prevents spina bifida and genetic abnormalities). Also add vitamins B-complex, C and E to boost your fertility and aid in a healthy conception.

If you are smoking make it your last cigarette as it will make it hard to get pregnant. Your baby will also suffer with ongoing health problems.

Some people say you can drink a glass of wine a day but I opt for the no alcohol at all thinking. Your baby by way of his or her placenta will be drinking that wine also. I would need pages and pages more to go into how drinking when you conceive and are pregnant affect your baby but I think most women are aware these days. Heart and brain defects are but two of a list of many. Play it safe and abstain.

The same applies for caffeine, which you will find in coffee, chocolate, fizzy drinks like coke and some foods. It is a fertility killer and I recommend you abstain or cut right back.

If you are taking over the counter or prescription medicines check with your doctor as to how they will affect your pregnancy plans.

Are you a couch potato or an exercise fan? If you want to know how to get pregnant then start walking, swimming or whatever you prefer. Rich, oxygenated blood gets pumped to your ovaries bathing and nourishing the reproductive eggs so they have a maximum chance of being fertilized.

Is your lifestyle filled with Stress? Then it is time to get some stress management and learn to make your work or home day easier. The consequences of being strung out are your hormones will go into a spin causing your menstrual cycle to become irregular leading to a shutdown of your whole reproductive system. Trying to make babies will be impossible.

Learn to say no to people's unfair demands on your time and prioritize what is important. In this case it is learning to relax and unwind.

Don't discard the impact stress can have on your fertility.

Invest in an ovulation kit and basal thermometer or chart with a calendar for at least 3 months before you attempt to conceive your menstrual cycle. It is true that not all women have a 28-day cycle so this is an efficient way of determining your own unique cycle. There are of course many other popular fertility monitors available.

If you are at the age of 35 to 41 refrain from sex 3 days before you ovulate so new sperm can meet with a freshly released egg. As you get older so do your eggs and quality (genetic abnormalities in the egg) can be an issue. Good timing could allow a high quality egg to be fertilized by fresh sperm maximizing your chances of getting pregnant.

Don't make getting pregnant a military operation where sex is only pursued as a means to conceiving. The more you relax with your partner the better the chance that nature will take its course. Having a baby should bring a couple closer together not tear them apart as often is the case after countless IVF treatments that cause moods wings renowned for putting pressure on a relationship.

Acupuncture and acupressure are ancient Chinese treatments, which work particularly well with age and infertility problems. Infertility is seen as a disease that could be caused by different organs in the body. Pressure points (meridians) are manipulated in the body to heal blockages and allow blood to flow freely. These treatments along with Chinese fertility herbs are highly effective and are being used to help women restore their fertility. Irregular menstrual cycles, hormonal imbalances, problems ovulating and age factor are only a few of the issues these treatments are able to mange and cure.

Because the world today is piling out pollution and making household products with chemicals and toxic substances having a baby is not as easy as it used to be. In our quest for advancement we have created an environment which our future generations (our babies) are not too happy to step into. A baby is surely nature at its finest so perhaps our rising infertility levels are testament to that fact.

Being 100% determined to make your pregnancy happen is half the battle as most of us aware today how strong our thinking can be. If you are willing to make changes to your lifestyle and the way you look at the world the question many women ask. How can I get pregnant? Could be a thing of the past. Times have changed and not always for the better so the way we live has to reflect these changes. The same applies for treatments as how can we justify using drugs to help women conceive when it is chemicals such as this that is a major source of infertility. Go natural and make the world a better place for your baby.

If you have a dream of becoming pregnant and are hell-bent on over-riding any obstacles to make your dream come true then your belief has every chance of making it so.

When the world says, "Give up," Hope whispers, "Try it one more time." Author Unknown.

Here Are 10 Easy Ways to Lose Weight

Diet Coke Nutrition Facts Here Are 10 Easy Ways to Lose Weight.

Well, to say losing weight is easy, is perhaps overstating it. But, it can be done and it gets easier once you start. I say this from experience.

1. Forget the extreme dieting and exercising you see on Biggest Loser. Unless you are in a hothouse situation with professional dietitians and trainers, with medical staff on hand, you will never make it. You need to be sensible and realistic and to develop the habit of healthy eating and movement. You need to learn new ways of being and doing and to build on that learning and develop the experience to further build on. You need to set yourself up for success.

2. Forget diets altogether. Diets only make you fat. Learn the abc of eating right:

a) The right food

b) The right amount

c) The right attitude

3. Learn to like exercise. Yes, like exercise. That is, like, enjoy, take pleasure in. Some of you are probably spluttering into your diet cokes or choking on your packet of chips at that comment, but it's not only possible, it's natural. We are meant to move. That's how we developed. And if you prefer, call it movement. Any movement is better than no movement. And movement isn't putting another chocolate into your mouth. It is getting up and walking around the room. It is bending over and picking up all the hamburger wrappers and putting them in the bin - preferably with the hamburgers still inside!

4. Start easy and build. If you eat a packet of biscuits (cookies) a day and a packet of chips, cut one out altogether and make the other last longer. Half now, half later. Always make yourself wait one minute, two minutes, three minutes before having the next chip, the next biscuit. And after you eat half of what you normally eat, stop, wait at least five minutes, ten minutes, half an hour before eating the remainder. You might even find that you are able to leave the second half altogether. Perhaps finish off with an apple instead.

5. Learn to eat slowly, whatever you are eating. How often do you open a bag of crisps, start munching and suddenly you're at the bottom of the packet and there's hardly any memory of the taste and texture of what you ate and less satisfaction? Eating slowly means you are less likely to want to reach for another packet. But, there is a far more beneficial aspect. It takes time for your brain to signal to your stomach that you are full. Eating slowly allows the signal to get through before you consume even more.

6. Walking is the best exercise there is. It is what we are meant to do above all else - in terms of movement. Its benefits are immense, overall and long term. You don't have to start with a long or fast walk. If you find it hard to walk because of sore joints and acute overweight, walk around one room of your house, then two, then three. Start with once a day, then twice a day, then three times a day. Build up, build up, build up. The real trick is to make it become a habit, and make it purposeful. A walk from the couch to the fridge and back to the couch is not the purpose. Once walking is comfortable, build up the speed and the height of leg lifts and swing of arms. Aim to march, proud and strong. Aim to walk outside, to stride down the street, proud and strong.

7. Cut down on processed food - anything that comes in a packet and is ready to eat or to heat and eat and is factory made. Introduce at least one new fresh food item a week. A piece of fruit, a vegetable, some nuts, seeds, beans or legumes. If you don't like this 'real' food, learn. Build up. Develop the taste. It is what we are supposed to eat. Chips don't grow on trees. Pizza doesn't grow in the ground. Hot dogs don't graze in the fields. Chocolate doesn't swim in the sea. Always ask yourself, 'Where did this food come from? Is it what we developed to eat or was it developed for profit?'

8. What are we supposed to drink? Water. Clear, cool, clean water. And that's all. I'm not saying don't drink anything else, I like my morning coffee with full cream milk, but we need to drink 1 - 2 litres (3 - 4 pints) of water a day. Again, build up, build up, build up. Half a glass to start is better than none. One glass is better than a half. Two glasses better than one. Caffeine and sweetened drinks strip your body of water, so if you never drink anything else, and never drink or eat anything natural, you are seriously dehydrated and you're constipated. Yes, I know that for a fact!

9. Adjust your attitude. Taking regular and positive steps to teach yourself to enjoy the correct foods in the right amounts is the way to lose weight and become healthy. Forget diets altogether. They are for fat people. In other words, they make people fat. Diets lead to more weight because they are short term, too restrictive, nearly always deficient in some health and nutrition aspect, and teach you nothing. Our bodies developed to store food in good times to help us survive the lean times. In today's world, there are no lean times, just good times. That's a problem, especially if we are mindless about what we consume. So, become mindful.

10. When you seek reward or solace in food, choose what is going to make you healthy, such as a bunch of grapes or a banana or a meal rich in vegetables. You can still have desert after dinner (supper). If you are eating all natural, fresh foods, cooked or raw, a small desert is the treat it's meant to be and won't do any harm at all. But, remember, you need to move, move, move to deserve the reward. And food is not the only reward. Learn to reward yourself with things that in turn reward you - like an extra walk in the fresh air! Or with a craft or hobby that brings deep satisfaction and builds you up. Then, you will need less comfort from the wrong sources and have more strength to refuse the wrong things in the first place, because they do not bring anything but more need. And who needs that?

This is supposed to be ten ideas, but here's a bonus one because you deserve a reward for reading and (hopefully) contemplating what I've said. Be realistic and kind to yourself. Being kind can mean throwing away the chips instead of consuming them! You took years putting on the weight, it will take a long time to lose it. Set realistic goals. Forget about the weight itself for now, make your goals ones of less energy in and more energy out. In other words, build up, build up, build up.

And here's another because good rewards can keep on flowing. For three weeks you need to keep a focus on something you want to change and put the effort in to changing it. After that, it starts to become a formed habit. That's all it takes. Three weeks. But, you can't let up after that because it will take longer to be truly a habit that you don't have to put so much emphasis on. But the more you do, the more you will have done. And the more you will have done, the more you will want to do. And the more you want to do, the less you will want to waste (or waist) what you've done.

And remember, it is not the size of the build up - although don't make excuses to keep it purposely minimal - but the continual increase in the build up. You don't have to suffer or hurt, although you will find it hard and uncomfortable initially. And the kilos (pounds) won't fall off like magic, not to start with, but you took a long time putting them there and they will take time to lose. But as your build up grows, so will the decrease in your size and the increase in your ability to move. As you learn to move more, the more you will want to move and the faster and stronger you will become at losing weight and becoming healthy.

And remember, always believe you can do it. If the long term seems impossible to believe, then believe that you can wait five more minutes before putting that next potato chip into your mouth. Believe that you can eat the packet minus five chips, then ten, then fifty. Believe that today you can drink one glass of water, and tomorrow two, and the next day three, to a minimum of eight. Build up, build up, build up. And you will come to enjoy the actual building up and then, all of a sudden, you will realize you are slimmer, fitter, happier and on a path you know you can stay on, walk down, skip down, run down!

And my final comment on easy weight loss (for now) is: Build up, build up, build up your belief in your ability to build up!

One of the things you should consider doing if you want a healthy skin is to concentrate on healthy skin diets. There are foods you should always eat and there are those you should avoid like plague if you want your skin to be healthy. Being the largest body organ, the skin is greatly affected by whatever enters the body in form of food and water. Everything has a direct effect on your skin. This is the more reason you should be very careful in selecting your diets so that your skin is not endangered. Some healthy eating tips have been provided in this article and you should think seriously about them if you are concerned about how to get healthy skin.

What your diets should contain

Low-Fat Dairy Products: Vitamin A is very vital to skin health and one of its major sources is low-fat dairy products. According to nutrition experts, vitamin A is the major plank upon which the health of the skin is highly dependent. Any food intake that helps to ensure normal digestion will be good for a good looking skin as well. Low-fat diary products clearly fall into this category. With low-fat dairy products, your natural healthy skin is assured.

Berries and plums: Berries and plums are foods with high content of antioxidants and they are highly instrumental to a healthy skin.

Carrots: In carrots, the skin can benefit from beta-carotene which is converted to vitamin A. Carrots are also a good source of vitamin C which is a known powerful antioxidant.. With carrots the skin is well protected from too much exposure to the sun which causes its premature aging.

Green Tea: The value of green tea to the skin cannot be overemphasized. It has anti-inflammatory components and helps to reduce the risk of skin cancer caused by the effect of ultra violet rays (UVR).

The foods you should avoid

Milk: Milk is known to be linked with increased acne and this is not divorced from its natural source. Of major concern is the fact that milk is mostly sourced from pregnant cows whose natural growth hormones are thought to be directly related to the occurrence of acne.

Soft drinks: A medium-sized coke is said to contain 56g of sugar and this is no doubt dangerous for the skin aside other known havoc to the body. Coke is not the only kind of soft drink that is problematic; other soft drinks are also not good for you if you are thinking of healthy skin at all. Drinks that are sugar sweetened promote wrinkles and acne and are therefore not good for the skin. If you want a healthy glowing skin, you should consider doing away with soft drinks.

Healthy Eating For Your Toddler in Preschool - The Effects of a Poor Diet on Preschoolers

Diet Coke Nutrition Facts Healthy Eating For Your Toddler in Preschool - The Effects of a Poor Diet on Preschoolers.

"Mommy, my teacher said I can no longer bring my soda to school"

You may have heard your kid saying these words to you so you began to fret and dialed his teacher's number. Is the teacher being too intrusive? Not really. Actually, the teacher is just doing her job of introducing the right foods while your child is still in preschool.

Sodas are loaded with sugar and are not a healthy food choice for preschoolers or any one else for that matter regardless of what Coke or Pepsi like to advertise.

Science reveals that early experiences with food have a huge impact on the future eating habits of your child. So, unless it's fine with you to see your child suffering from ailments due to malnourishment, you should start thinking about the right nutrition in preschool.

Poor diet is linked to the development of various chronic diseases which include high blood pressure, heart attack, and diabetes. You may think that it is too early for your kid to suffer from this health issue but you must remember the fact that juvenile diabetes and other serious ailments do occur in the younger generations.

Based on the food pyramid, a preschooler's diet should comprise of fruits, grains, and vegetables each day and a limited daily intake of saturated sodium, cholesterol, sugar, and fat. Thus in preschool, children should not only learn about nutrition by solving word questions or puzzles with healthy food pictures on them, teachers and parents must join hands in order for the child to get involved with actual food. Holding a cooking class is a sensible idea to expose the child to good nutrition while creating a good bond with one another.

Health Benefits of Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Juices

Diet Coke Nutrition Facts Health Benefits of Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Juices.

Fresh fruit and vegetable juices are a wonderful source of nutrition. They are great for healthy people and can be life saving for those who are ill. Once you get started drinking fresh juices, you will experience some of the most delightful flavors a person could ever begin to imagine!  Fruit juices contain nutrients that are in a form that need no digestion so they are ready for immediate absorption and assimilation into the body, which is why they are so wonderful for people who are fighting serious illnesses.

When considering juice, the freshness of one's juice is vitally important. The best thing to do whenever possible is to make the juice and drink it on the spot! The reason is because it quickly loses its nutritional value after being squeezed. This is one of the reasons why store-bought juice (even "naked" juice) is not going to do for you what freshly squeezed juices will do. Canned and bottled juices that are pasteurized have had all their enzymes destroyed through processing, and in addition, usually have sugar added, so they would not be good choices. If you cannot drink your juice immediately after squeezing it, store it in an air tight jar in the refrigerator and consume it as soon as possible. Some health practitioners estimate that the enzymes in the juices are destroyed within a few minutes up to an hour or so after juicing.  Fresh juices should be consumed on a daily basis.

Vegetable Juice

Vegetable juices are the builders of the body.

The very best tasting vegetable juice, and probably the easiest one for beginners to start with, is carrot juice. It is also a good base for other juices. It is very sweet, something that may have escaped one's notice until he quits eating (refined) sugar!  Sugar ruins the taste buds, but once it has been removed from the diet, then the subtle flavors of natural foods burst forth as in a symphony. Do not worry about your skin turning yellow. This will not happen unless you consume a lot of carrot juice, and even then, it is not a harmful condition; in fact, it is a good thing! Contrary to popular opinion, it isn't the beta carotene in the juice that turns the skin an orange color. It is the toxins and old bile being released from the body through the skin which gives it this yellow or orange cast. Once these toxins have been removed, the skin will return to its normal color no matter how much carrot juice one consumes. Think about it, has anyone ever turned brown from drinking too much coffee or coke?

Cabbage juice is another excellent health drink, but the flavor is not that great so it might be better mixed with carrot juice. Some tastes may need developing! Beet juice makes a very red and tasty juice. A word of warning: do not be alarmed when you use the "sanitation unit" after you have ingested beet juice. You are not bleeding to death. If you experience a red color in the stool or urine, it is most likely from the red in the beets. One healthy concoction to try is a combination of carrot, spinach, beet and dandelion juice. Depending on the proportions of each vegetable used, you will get a slightly different flavor, but it is delicious.

Fruit Juice

Fruit juices are the cleansers of the body.

With regard to fruit juices, some alternative health practitioners have commented that because of the naturally occurring high sugar content of natural fruit juices, they should either be diluted with distilled water, consumed in small amounts, or taken together with their fiber, such as one would get by blending a fruit in the VitaMix. Others have commented that the energy saved by not having to process the fiber goes toward the healing and repairing of the body. Dr. Walker (who lived to be 118 years of age) believed that when a food is juiced and the fiber is separated out, most of the toxins are eliminated with the fiber. The reader will have to make up his own mind. I tend to think that when someone who speaks on the subject of health lives to be 118 years old and dies disease free, he probably knows what he is talking about. In any event, when in doubt, variety is usually a wise route.

Health - Weight Loss Myths and Realities

Diet Coke Nutrition Facts Health - Weight Loss Myths and Realities.

Weight loss is at a minimum a $100 Billion industry with a double digit growth rate. That's why EVERYBODY would like to get a piece of it - doctors, drug companies, nutritionists, authors, supplement companies, food companies, gyms, exercise equipment, shoes - all aspects of lifestyle can play into this market and their messaging. Where do you go and who do listen to? How do maintain the body style & shape that you feel is right for you?

If you are a person who is concerned your current body shape, this will be an extremely helpful essay - if you are not currently concerned with your body shape, use this to help others make sensible personal choices and do some planning for yourself.

This article will focus on 3 areas - the size and scope of the issue or the fact that you're not alone; why you gain weight and the three most common weight loss myths.

You're Not Alone

North America has a problem and the world in general has a growing problem - weight management. The baby boomers (post WWII) and later generations are at a unique confluence - highly mobile, industrialized society with extremely lost cost, highly processed but nutritionally deficient food served in large quantities with an emphasis on speed of preparation.

This has resulted in the following conditions throughout the country

  • 65% of the population is overweight.

  • 33% of children are obese or at risk

What's so amazing is that this is tip of the iceberg; in the last two generations, weight management related diseases / ailments have exploded in all age groups.

  • Type 2 Diabetes

  • Acid Reflux

  • Cancer

  • Cholesterol

  • Blood pressure

  • Stress

  • Fatigue

  • Erectile Dysfunction

These conditions are the core of current health care crisis in the country and they are lifestyle issues and are all moderately to extremely controllable by the individual.. Example: 70% of all U.S. deaths are from heart disease, cancer or stroke and 50% of these deaths are diet related.

Why You Gain Weight

Let's demystify weight management. In general it's pretty straightforward but in specific everyone needs to personalize a program to their needs. This is not a cop out - it's just to say everyone's body chemistry is a little different and the individual needs to take general principles and translate them into a personalized program.

It's true what some companies say - "diets don't work" BUT they don't tell you why. First, because you can't stick to them (ex: grapefruit diet) - so you roller coaster; second most programs don't come with support - people lose, maintain or gain weight best if they have a support system, usually a coach they can talk to- not friends or your partner/spouse. Third, the person really isn't serious. Real, sustainable results take time - talk is cheap. An ounce of commitment is worth a pound of promises - stick to it!

You eat healthy now and can't lose weight - take a look at what you eat (be honest). Example low fat yogurt. While the term "low" is relative anything that says low fat means that its high in sugars and vis versa or take salads, ever see someone get a salad and then put a ton of dressing on top or the person who gets a burger and fries and then a has a Diet Coke to "cut" calories - the list goes on. Here's what a good eating program looks like:

What the Body Needs... American Diet... Nutritional Diet

  • Sugar... High... Low

  • Fat... High... Low

  • Salt... High... Low

  • Calories... High... Low

  • Protein... Low... High

  • Fiber... Low... High

Here's the math of why we all gain weight. Under the American Diet an average number of calories consumed daily = 4,000. The average number of calories need to maintain the body = 2,000. Net waistline growth per day = 2,000 calories. WOW!

This doesn't into account the effect of the lower nutritional value of those calories that you take in from food processing. Example: the pasteurization process that milk goes through kills all the bacteria BOTH good and bad. By killing the good bacteria they destroy most of the nutritional value and the flavor of milk. A slightly lower temperature would kill the bad and leave the good but it's a little more expensive so dairy processing companies don't use it. You can't tell me that an out of season hothouse tomato tastes anything like one right off the vine. "Organic" or otherwise makes no difference. It's the processing.

Weight Loss Myths

When it comes to losing weight we all have our own stories - let's walk through the BIG myths:

  1. It's all about Calories - NO. Unhealthy weight loss is all about calories. HEALTHY weight loss is about Nutrition. You do need lower calories in relation to how much activity you have BUT it needs to be balanced or you will go hungry all the time and cheat. Also, don't fall for those commercials of eating packaged foods and getting ripped abs - won't happen.

  2. It's all about exercise - NO. Exercise is a complement not a substitute for fewer calories. Exercise is for toning and shaping muscles and it takes a LOT of exercise to burn calories. Do not fall for equipment commercials that tell you 20 minutes a day of a routine workout get you those muscles - takes lots of exercise with the right diet, usually much higher in lean protein.

  3. I Can't lose weight Myth - YES YOU CAN. ANYBODY can lose weight Here are the reasons why people don't have long term success - cheating, not enough water/detoxand too many of the wrong kind of calories

Magic answer/formula

Now you know the scope of the problem and you're not alone in fighting the battle of the bulge. You also know why you gain weight and the big myths that companies, friends, doctors and nutritionists like to tell us. Here is a framework that you can use with the right support coach in making great choices that fit your lifestyle.

  • Healthy/can maintain weight loss = proper nutrition

  • Faster loss = exercise

  • Tone and shape = more exercise

Proper Nutrition - your choice - your results

Refined / Simple Carbohydrates: Sugars, white breads, rice & pasta, fruit juice & white potatoes. High hunger control But only lasts 10 minutes - this is what produces constant cravings.

Complex Carbohydrates: Fruits, veggies. and whole grains (whole oatmeal, brown rice, whole wheat pasta & bread). Produces low hunger control that lasts 30 - 60 minutes.

Lean Protein: Chicken, fish, lean beef, egg whites and soy products. Medium hunger control lasting 2-3 hours

Complex Carbohydrates + Lean Protein: Meal replacement shakes, balanced meals, and balanced snacks. High hunger control that lasts 3+ hours. THIS IS THE BEST.

Find out what works for you. REMEMBER you don't have to settle, your great just the way you are and accept personal responsibility for whatever choices you decide to make.

Halt That Hair Loss Now!

Diet Coke Nutrition Facts Halt That Hair Loss Now!.

Research has shown that both men and women suffer significant hair loss at some point in their lives. Although hair loss is not health or life threatening, it is known to cause serious problems with some people's self confidence and psyche generally.

Unfortunately just like in the case of aids, there has been no absolute cure found yet for hair loss problems. It has however been found out that many of the causes of hair loss are hereditary in nature. This not withstanding, there are also many preventive measures that one can take in order to maintain a healthy hair and scalp.

It has also been discovered that although both men and women suffer significant hair loss, men seem to suffer more from this problem generally.

It is worthy of note to mention here that the study of hair loss did not start today. It has been on-going through the ages and as a result, some real interesting discoveries were made.

Take the case of eunuchs for example. Yes those males who have been castrated and who cannot reproduce. Do you know that they never ever went bald? Even those who were castrated as a result of accidents in battle!

This of course was the first indication that testosterone had something to do with hair loss.

In the course of the study of the problem of hair loss, some other facts have been unearthed and consequently, some solutions found to halt the trend.

One major fact discovered is that the high consumption of fatty food and consequently the increase of DHT (Dihydrotestosterone), a chemical produced by the body have been found to cause hair loss. Practical clinical examinations have proved this to be to be an undeniable fact.

The good news therefore is that one does not have to be a icon in Mathematics to know that one major way to avoid hair loss problems is to avoid eating fatty food. Those junk stuff you pick up along the way and gulp down with with a bottle of coke or pepsi need to be replaced with a well-prepared food. Simply avoid fats!

It is however not only fatty food that need to be avoided.

It has been found out that the DHT issue is also triggered by the intake of excess alcohol, sugar, caffeine and nicotine since they do deplete the body's supply of nutrients and thereby raise adrenal levels which in turn cause a chain reaction of producing more androgen and cause hair loss.

(I swear I can hear some dudes out there swear to remain with their hair loss instead of giving up the booze and nicotine.)

It is equally advised that excess intake of salt should be avoided. When using salt for seasoning during cooking, be sure to use salt with iodine since it is a nutrient that is vital to hair growth.

Even though hair loss can be caused by other factors, the absence of proper nutrition will definitely cause hair loss in most people. Adopting a proper diet that includes good nutrients can reverse hair loss caused by malnutrition.

There are however some other methods that have been successfully used to prevent and correct hair loss in some people, in addition to dietary improvements. It is a well-known fact that some people find it difficult to stay away from their favourite diet or alcohol no matter how hard they try.

Massage and Aromatherapy have been used with some success in minor cases of hair loss.

There are quite a few other ways to handle this and related health conditions. These can be accessed at

Green Tea Fat Metabolizer - Helping Or Hurting

Diet Coke Nutrition Facts Green Tea Fat Metabolizer - Helping Or Hurting.

Before you buy a green tea fat metabolizer, take a few moments to read this article and learn the facts. Green tea metabolism boosters are everywhere. But, what do they really do?

You may have seen a popular diet doctor on television recently. He suggests that a person can lose 10 pounds in six weeks by drinking green tea instead of coffee. But, there are no clinical trials to support that statement.

It has been shown that a green tea fat metabolizer increased the loss of abdominal fat, when overweight people exercise. It has been shown to be beneficial for weight management, when a person consumes enough protein in their diet.

Although if a person consumes a high protein diet, there is no added benefit from a green tea metabolism booster, and only a high protein diet improves feelings of fullness or satiety. Green tea metabolism boosters have no effect on feelings of fullness or on reducing hunger.

Japanese researchers have said that drinking five cups per day will help you burn an extra 70 to 80 calories per day. This is likely due to the caffeine content and it would only work in people that have a normally low caffeine intake.

The preliminary studies on which the green tea metabolism booster claims are based were conducted using laboratory animals. Think about it. Lab animals do not drink caffeinated beverages. If you are like most people, you are probably getting plenty of caffeine every day.

If you don't drink coffee, you probably drink sodas. Coke, Pepsi, Mountain Dew and the "diet" varieties of those beverages contain as much caffeine as you'll find in coffee.

A popular green tea fat metabolizer contains an extra 500mg of caffeine. That is enough to cause insomnia, heart palpitations, nervousness, anxiety and a variety of other health problems.

While moderate amounts of caffeine increase your energy levels, regular intake of large amounts actually decreases them. It's a stimulant. If you went without it for several weeks and then drank a caffeinated beverage, it would literally make you high.

You can get the green tea metabolism benefits if you choose a supplement that contains the extract and a variety of other nutrients, including amino acids. Proteins are simply long chains of amino acids. Increased intake of protein and amino acids can help you feel satisfied on fewer calories.

A green tea fat metabolizer may help your body burn more fat during exercise. Resveratrol has the same effect. The best supplements contain both, along with essential vitamins and minerals to insure that a low calorie diet does not lead to nutritional deficiencies.

If you often find that dieting makes you irritable and moody, you may have low levels of SAM-e. A green tea metabolism booster will not help with that. But there are some supplements that contain SAM-e, too.

The bottom line is that a green tea fat metabolizer is not a magic pill. Your body needs lots of different nutrients every day in order to function efficiently and effectively.

Get Off Your Can! WSJ Article on Soft Drinks Misses the Mark

Diet Coke Nutrition Facts Get Off Your Can! WSJ Article on Soft Drinks Misses the Mark.

The article written by Valerie Bauerlein and Betsy McKay titled, "Soda Tax Uncaps a Fight", which appeared on page A3 of the May 24th, 2010 issue of the Wall Street Journal, clearly missed the mark. The gist of the article is that states are considering imposing an excise tax on "sweetened drinks" as a way to plug budget shortfalls. Kevin Kane, a spokesman for the American Beverage Association is quoted as saying, "This is all about grabbing money to fill budget deficits and pay for more government," or so he would have you think.

The fact is that soft drinks are the #1 source of calories for Americans. In case you've had your head in the sand, we are in the midst of an obesity epidemic in the U.S. 70% of Americans are overweight! 30% of Americans are obese! According to the National Institutes of Health, a person is obese if they are 30 or more

pounds overweight. The leading cause of our obesity epidemic is our consumption of soft drinks.

According to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), the U.S. pays twice as much as any other developed nation per capita for healthcare. OECD data also shows that the U.S. has double the obesity rate of any other developed nation. Let's face it, we pay twice as much because we are lazy and we have a pitiful diet. "Junk food" has been a buzz phrase for decades, what about "junk drinks"? A regular 12oz. Coke has 140 calories and the equivalent of 7 teaspoons of sugar.

Our behavior is what is driving our medical costs and putting a huge strain on our financial system. According to the New England Journal of Medicine, 70% of medical and pharmacy claims are from poor lifestyle choices. Poor nutrition is the #1 behavioral cause of health problems and is a factor in 71% of behavior related claims. Furthermore, the American Cancer Society estimates that one-third of the more than 500,000 cancer deaths that occur in the U.S. each year are attributed to diet and physical activity habits, including overweight and obesity, while another third is caused by exposure to tobacco products.

In an article published in the Journal of the American Medical Association by A.H. Mokdad and J.S Marks, they state that poor diet and physical activity were the second leading cause of behavior related death in the U.S. in 2000 and accounted for 400,000 deaths. Use of tobacco was 1st causing 435,000 deaths and alcohol consumption was 3rd causing 85,000 deaths.

The economic impact of obesity is staggering. According to the National Business Group on Health, the effects of obesity are similar to 20 years of aging and individuals who are obese have 30% to 50% more chronic medical problems than those who smoke or drink heavily. A study published in the Archives of Internal Medicine compared a group of people having a recommended body mass index to 3 different classes of obesity. The study found that those in Obesity Class III had medical, disability and workers compensation costs that were 191%, 755% and 1194%, respectively, higher than the non-obese control group. Similarly, a Duke University Medical Center study of 11,728 employees from 1997 to 2004 found that obese employees filed twice as many workers compensation claims, had 7 times higher medical costs from those claims and lost 13 times more days from work injury or work illness than did non-obese employees.

Poor nutrition, lack of exercise and diabetes go hand in hand. Cases of diabetes in the U.S. doubled from 1990 to 2005 and are expected to double again by 2030. The incidence of Type II Diabetes in adolescence has increased 10 times over the last decade and now constitute just over 1/3 of new pediatric diabetes cases. It is estimated that 80% of Type II Diabetes cases are preventable with diet and exercise.

The facts are clear. There is an obesity epidemic in the U.S. and it is driven by poor nutrition and lack of exercise. The number one source of calories for Americans and, therefore, the leading cause of obesity in the U.S. are soft drinks. States have enacted excise taxes on alcohol and tobacco to recoup increased medical care costs because of their consumption and to encourage healthy behavior. An excise tax on soft drinks used to offset the financial burden of obesity, to fund diet and exercise education in schools and to provide healthy food in schools is long overdue.

Gastro-Physics And Dietary Anti-Matter

Diet Coke Nutrition Facts Gastro-Physics And Dietary Anti-Matter.

Do a little people-watching, next time you're in the grocery line. There's always someone with a cart, bulging with every conceivable kind of diet food. Flats of turkey bacon prop listlessly against the fat free half & half and Olestra cookies. At first glance, this is clearly someone who is completely health conscious, diet minded, and watching what they eat.

But peek beneath the basket to the lower rack - where you normally find dog food, kitty litter, and toxic chemicals - and you will see the full case of Mountain Dew. Diet foods and junk foods, rubbing wrappers in the very same cart might suggest mental illness, delusional optimism, or some other form of brain strain.

However, unbeknownst to the rest of us, these folks are actually brilliant physicists, cleverly disguised as profoundly confused shoppers, so as not to attract any attention. They throw you off their trail with very characteristic behaviors, like chasing a candy bar with a Diet Coke.

Yes, we can now release the fact that these scientists are members of the little know branch of their field known as gastro-physics, and they are actually testing a high-level theory regarding matter and anti-matter. Just as matter can be annihilated by anti-matter, they show how calories can be eliminated, obliterated, and just forgotten about altogether if you just consume them with their Universal opposite.

Oreos and skim milk cancel perfectly.

M&Ms are vaporized into the next astral plane when thrown into a trail mix bag with a few Spanish peanuts.

And then there's diet drinks ... the perfect dietary anti-matter for any form of plasticized fruit rollup, gummy worms, or even weight loss candy bars.

Sorry for the dive into the messy scientific details, but there's just a bit more you should know about this physics phenomenon. The calorie cancellation must happen within a certain time frame, if you are serious about blipping away that ingot of taffy you just ate.

It's like your mother explained, logically, that swimming after quick a baloney and cheese sandwich at the beach will make you drop like a rock to the bottom of the ocean, unless you wait the required 30 minutes or so.

In just the same way, modern gastro-physicists indicate that full cancellation can only take effect if the diet product smashes into the junk food within 7.45 minutes. These guys are brilliant.

So the next time you see cleverly disguised gastro-physicists chasing their Snickers with a Diet Coke, don't harrumph. They're not as daft as they seem.

Food Myths - Is Coffee Bad For You Are All Sweeteners Bad Food Facts and Myths Uncovered

Diet Coke Nutrition Facts Food Myths - Is Coffee Bad For You Are All Sweeteners Bad Food Facts and Myths Uncovered.

Did you stop eating eggs because of the cholesterol and have you cut out all food sweeteners? Trying to drink eight glass of water a day because you read it somewhere? Read most surprising food facts and myths.

FOOD MYTH 1: TEA DEHYDRATES YOU, SO DRINK WATER INSTEAD

Dietitian Dr Carrie Ruxton says new research shows that tea is just as effective as water in keeping you hydrated. She tested 21 men over a 12 hour period. Some were given tea to drink all day, the others were given water. Blood and urine samples were taken. The results were surprising. The tea-drinkers did not pee any more than the water-drinkers and their sodium and other vital salt levels remained virtually the same too. Dr Ruxton said "drinking moderate amounts of tea offered the same excellent hydration qualities as plain water".

FOOD MYTH 2: EGGS LEAD TO HIGH CHOLESTEROL

The British Nutrition Foundation found the cholesterol in eggs has only a small and clinically insignificant effect on blood cholesterol. Dr Bruce Griffen, a professor of nutritional metabolism at the University of Surrey put people on a two-egg-a-day low calorie diet for 12 weeks and found no significant rise in cholesterol levels. In fact, eggs fill you up better so they make the ideal breakfast choice. So you do not need to limit the number of eggs you eat to 3 or 4 a week, just make them a normal part of a balanced diet. To reduce cholesterol, instead you need to cut down on saturated fat such as fatty meat, cakes, cookies and full fat dairy products.

FOOD MYTH 3: YOU NEED TO DRINK 8 GLASSES OF WATER A DAY

A study conducted by the University of Pennsylvania looked into the supposed benefits of drinking eight glasses of water a day and found no evidence it leads to plumper skin, detoxification or weight loss. The amount of water a person needs varies according to the individual. If you are thirsty or if your urine is dark yellow, you need to take in some fluid (and see Myth One: this can be tea!)

FOOD MYTH 4: HEALTHY FOOD IS MORE EXPENSIVE

Often, healthier food is cheaper as it tastes so good, you do not need to eat as much of it in order to feel satisfied and full. Beans for example, are one of the healthiest foods you can and they are so much cheaper than meat especially heavily processed and cured meat such as bacon or pancetta.

FOOD MYTH 5: LOW FAT OR REDUCED FAT FOODS ARE BETTER FOR YOU

Foods labeled 'low fat' or 'reduced fat' just means they have around 30% less fat than the standard choices but that still may mean they contain fat. Low fat foods often contain a lot of sugar to make up the taste or unhealthy carbohydrate substitutes. Plus, if something is labeled 'low fat', you might be inclined to eat more of it. You know, when you order a pizza but think it's okay because you're only having a diet coke!

FOOD MYTH 6: Going vegetarian will help you lose weight

Some vegetarian meals may contain a lot of fat. Cheese, pastry, cream, oil, butter are all high in fat. Of course, a diet rich in vegetables, seeds, pulses and fruit should remain a part of any healthy, balanced diet.

FOOD MYTH 7: YOU PILE ON THE WEIGHT IF YOU EAT LATE AT NIGHT

Scientists studied monkey who ate 65% of their calories at night and found they weighed the same as monkeys who only had 6% of their calories at night. The trouble with night time eating is not the time, it is the type of food we tend to eat then: TV snacks such as chocolate, cookies, nachos and chips. We often eat at night because we are bored, or it has become a habit to eat when watching TV, or we feel a need to 'reward' ourselves after a long day so look at WHAT you eat rather than WHEN you eat.

FOOD MYTH 8: FOOD SWEETENERS ARE BAD FOR YOU

There is one food sweetener which has proven health benefits: XYLITOL. Xylitol has been used as a sugar replacement since the sixties. It is often used in packaged food for diabetics and studies show it reduces tooth-decay in certain cases. Six US dental associations have officially endorsed xylitol in sugarfree candies and chewing gum.

Five Popular Diet Myths

Diet Coke Nutrition Facts Five Popular Diet Myths.

The nutrition field, and more specifically dieting, is full of myths and half-truths. Every "expert" has an opinion and finds followers desperate to believe these opinions as truth. If it sounds good it will probably find supporters. Once a myth gains momentum it steamrolls its way into popular culture. Once it is entrenched it is very difficult to debunk the myth. If it is published in a magazine or overheard on television it becomes fact. Diet myths are a dime a dozen with new ones cropping up all the time. Below are five popular myths, and why they are not true.

1. Genetics. If you have bad genetics you will not be able to lose weight, or if you do lose weight it will come right back on. This simply is not true. Genetics plays a strong role in a person's predisposition for weight gain, but does not doom them. Many people have been genetically "coded" for certain diseases but with proper nutrition and health care they avoid developing them. This holds true for obesity as well. Just because a person is predisposed to weight gain does not mean that they can never reach their ideal weight and maintain it. They may have to work harder than others but it can be done. The truth to this myth is that these individuals have to be more vigilant because if they slide they can easily gain the weight back.

2. Salad Myth. Many dieters think that having a salad, no matter what kind, constitutes a healthy meal. It is true that a leafy, green salad with a few other vegetables and a light amount of dressing is healthy. However, many dieters will add chicken, ham, eggs, nuts, croutons, bacon, or other heavy food choices to their salad, rendering it unhealthy. Then they add nearly a half-cup of salad dressing to smother what little bit of green might have been showing. Now, a potential low-calorie salad becomes a heavy, calorie laden mess. This is the equivalent of the dieter who goes into McDonald's and orders a Big Mac, Large Fries and Diet Coke, "Because their dieting."

3. Wheat Bread. Wheat bread is better than white bread right? Wrong. It is just as bad as white bread. The wheat flour used in regular wheat bread is just as processed, and therefore as easily converted to simple sugars, as the white flour. Whole grain oat bread is a much better substitute when bread is needed. As a matter of fact, whole grain oats are a good substitute in all grain foods, such as cereals.

4. Honey. Honey, pass on the honey. Just because something is natural does not always make it better. Some people have been falsely led to believe that honey is a better alternative to sugar. Since it is natural, they believe that it is somehow a healthier substitute. It is still sugar. It will still cause blood sugar levels to go haywire. With no fiber to slow the absorption, you might as well be eating straight sugar.

5. Low-fat=Healthy. If a food is labeled low-fat or fat-free is it really healthy? Maybe not. Many low-fat and fat-free foods add copious amounts of sugar to improve the flavor, thereby increasing the calorie count. The added sugar will also cause spikes in blood sugar, causing spikes in insulin, and a faster shuttle of energy into fat stores. Read labels carefully, and look at ingredients. If sugar (in any of its forms) is near the top of the ingredient list, pass on the low-fat. Sometimes the regular fat version is a healthier choice in the long run.

Fat Loss Simplified

Diet Coke Nutrition Facts Fat Loss Simplified.

Have you ever seen a picture of a stick thin celebrity, talking about her diet program? "I start the day with an apple and for lunch I have a salad with low-fat dressing" and so it goes.

Well, take that with a pinch of salt. Some of these celebs are actually undernourished, so of course they look thin. And you can bet that if they are healthy they do eat other stuff, and they have a personal coach as well. The fact is, you won't get slim and healthy on a low calorie diet alone.

It does seem logical that if you eat less and exercise more, your body will burn the excess fat and then you'll be slimmer ... surely it will work??

Well, yes, sort of ... however, it's not that simple ... if you start to eat less without thinking about WHAT you eat, you will end up being malnourished and skinny!

Here are two basic reasons why low calorie diets don't work:

The first reason is that all calories are not created equal. The calories that are in fat, sugar and artificial food additives are much worse than the calories in - for example - apples and vegetables. You should not avoid calories per se, you should avoid "bad" calories. There's a vast difference in nutrition and benefits between processed food, rich in artificial additives and natural foodstuffs.

Because you don't just want to lose weight, lose that stomach fat and get rid of your love handles, you want to became slimmer and fitter. Even if you cut down on calories drastically you would not achieve that.

A dramatic example would be to ONLY drink "Zero Coke" - that fizzy is completely empty - no calories, no nutrition. Would you lose weight? Certainly. Will you be healthy? Absolutely not! You'll be malnourished and feeling pretty bad quite soon.

Your body NEEDS calories to survive. If you eat foods rich in "good" calories your body will burn more energy digesting these than what the calories give to you.

A large apple contains about 100 calories and so do three strips of bacon. Think of the difference for your body eating an apple or eating bacon ... will you get fat from the apples or from the bacon?

The second reason has to do with the fact that muscle burns more calories than fat. In fact, fat is sort of "dead tissue", that is, it doesn't do anything for your metabolism while muscle tissue actually consumes energy just to maintain itself. That is the reason why people with a high ratio of lean muscle to fat can eat more, and still stay slim - whilst fat people stay fat even though they might just pick at their food.

Now there are obviously other things to consider when you want to lose love handles and stomach fat, or simply lose weight. For example, fat obeys the same rule as the unions - last in first out. What that means is that the fat you put on first - most often found on your thighs and around your midriff - is the last to disappear!

In other words, to get rid of love handles it is necessary to build some muscle and be patient. You didn't put on weight from one day to another, nor did the love handles appear overnight. The good news it will melt away far quicker than you put it on, but it will still take time.

If you don't eat enough calories - energy - your body will use your muscle tissue as fuel, not the fat. Since you don't have enough lean muscle tissue your metabolism is low, and so your body can't burn the fat.

You will see some "results" from most low calorie diets - in the short term you will lose water and muscle so you are fooled into thinking you're getting slimmer. But in the long term they don't work!

Fast Weight Loss - The Most Important Factor

Diet Coke Nutrition Facts Fast Weight Loss - The Most Important Factor.

Like most people who want fast weight loss, it is likely that you want to do it fast. The faster you see results the sooner you will shopping for new clothes and feeling great about yourself. This article is going to discuss the fast way to lose weight, and it all starts with nutrition.

The most common recommendation to lose weight fast is to "diet and exercise". While this is true in general theory, it does not hold up well in the real world. Why? Because nutrition is the FIRST factor that you need to be accountable for. You can workout in the gym 4 days per week and really push yourself. Let's say that you even burn a total of 1600 calories doing this over the course of the week. This is great, but you will make very little progress with weight loss if you don't also have a nutrition program that produces results.

Remember that is took a lot of time and effort in the gym to burn off 1600 calories (1 hour of exercise on 4 days over the week). Now think about how much time it will take to eat 1600 calories. It could be 2 bowls of ice cream, 2 regular Coke's, and 1 slice of pizza. It might take a total of 25 minutes to eat those things while sitting on the couch, but it takes 4 hours of working your butt off just to get back to even. So, nutrition is king and it is the FIRST thing you do to start seeing results. Exercise will follow and can also create massive changes in your body composition, but nutrition always comes first.

Not all fats are bad for you

It is not a good idea to cut all fat out of your diet when you start a weight loss plan. In fact, some foods such as salmon and grass fed beef have healthy fats that are good for you in more ways than one. These foods have healthy fats as well as protein, so they are a great addition to any fat loss diet.

Don't eat anything that has a food label with ingredients you can't pronounce

If you buy something that has a bunch of words such as "L-Cysteine Monohydrochloride", are you aware of what you are putting in your body? Any food label with a lot of big words is a sure sign that the food is processed. Processed foods are not only unhealthy, but they are also very calories dense and are usually not very filling. Stick to foods with no nutrition label OR foods that only have 1 ingredient listed such as "rolled oats" or "peanuts".

Eat 5-6 small meals each day

This is one of the first things you need to do. If you eat all the same foods and simply space them out in smaller portions every 2-3 hours (5-6 small meals per day), you will be on the fast track to losing weight. Eating smaller meals throughout the day helps you prevent your blood sugar from spiking, which prevents the excess calories from being stored as extra body fat.

For a lot of people, the nutrition part of weight loss is the most confusing. There certainly is not shortage of information out there and everything seems to tell you something different. The one thing that will always work is the basics. The information in this article simply goes back to the most basic aspects of weight loss nutrition: protein, vegetables, fruits, etc.

Don't get frustrated if you don't see results right away. If you keep a food log you will have a lot of clarity for where you can small a few small improvements each week. This is what fast weight loss is all about - nutrition first and exercise second. Eating right does not have to be complicated; it just has to be consistent. Good luck!

Fast Food to Organic Diet - Whats the Happy Medium

Diet Coke Nutrition Facts Fast Food to Organic Diet - Whats the Happy Medium.

I know one of my biggest weaknesses is fast food. There are days when nothing sounds better than a burger dripping with sauce and a huge coke. I just have to be somewhat frazzled by five o'clock and I can easily talk myself and my three eager kids into it. But I do know on some level, after I've downed my fix, that fast food isn't exactly the wisest choice when it comes to my health and the health of my family. So what's the big deal? Well I assume we all would like to live longer and look younger especially since we're always in search of that pill that keeps us as spry as a twenty-one year old but have the wisdom of an old tribal master. And it may be more obtainable than we think -- starting with...

Reducing Our Intake of Toxic food. So perhaps not all fast food is toxic, we are being offered other choices -- presumably healthier choices than deep-fried options. But in general, fast food is clogged with fat, salt and sugar. It has no or low fiber -- and if we consult our food pyramid, we know the necessity of our daily fiber. And it is also very limited in the amount of important nutrients. Note I said to reduce our intake of fast food, not eliminate it. So be realistic about it.

Know Nutritional Facts about Food. It's important to educate ourselves so we know what kinds of food are good for our bodies, and what we should stay away from. If health and vigor are important to us, we must research the nutritional facts of the foods we eat. If we want to go beyond just eliminating the bad, and instead actually adding in the healthiest kinds of food -- we can go even one more step...

Eat Organically. So maybe you just let out an audible sigh -- but let's go over some of the key points of organic foods: They have no pesticides -- meaning you're not eating foods with small amounts of poison. We're only at the tip of the iceberg as far as the long-reaching effects of pesticides. Organic foods also contain more of the good stuff we need -- more antioxidants. And why are antioxidants supposed to be so good? Studies have shown that antioxidants likely decrease the risk of cancer and heart disease. Still, you may be ready to take even one more step...

Organic Gardening. There are a lot of people that do organic gardening and they don't even know it. By definition it's the growing of fruits and vegetables using only natural methods. In essence, it means there are no artificial chemicals used to fertilize, control weeds and control pests.

So we've gone from one extreme to the other -- fast food to organic gardening. Maybe you fall somewhere in between, but it's never too late to start incorporating even healthier habits into our lives.

Energy Drinks, Are They For You A Product Review of the More Popular Drinks

Diet Coke Nutrition Facts Energy Drinks, Are They For You A Product Review of the More Popular Drinks.

Energy drinks are soft drinks advertised as providing energy to improve physical activity of the drinker, as compared to a typical drink. They are typically attractive to young people. Energy drinks are not necessarily bad for you, but they shouldn't be seen as "natural alternatives" either. Energy drinks to some people may seem like just a drink to quench your thirst every now and then but in actual fact energy drinks are extremely powerful and if too much has been ingested it can speed up your heart rate and leave your blood pressure sky high, which may result in heart palpitations.

Red Bull

Red Bull was created by Dietrich Mateschitz, an Austrian who adapted the energy drink from a Thai beverage called Krating Daeng, a popular drink with rickshaw drivers in Thailand. Red Bull remains the top name in energy drinks to this day, with global sales estimated at about $2 billion annually. Red Bull is the dominant brand in the US after its introduction in 1997, with a market share of approximately 47%. Red Bull currently spends about 30 percent of its revenue on marketing, compared to Coca- Cola, which spends a mere 9 percent. Red Bull was introduced to Europe in 1987 and to the United States in 1997. Red Bull's infamous ingredient is not from a bull's semen or urine as reputed by urban legend, but rather, an amino acid, taurine, that was first discovered in bulls. This product is also banned in Denmark. Red Bull may be the best selling energy drink in the United States, but it isn't so popular in other countries. It contains as much caffeine as two cans of Coke or Pepsi. Red Bull contains sugars, 80 mg of caffeine (for the 8 ounce can.

Rockstar

Rockstar Punched is particularly well regarded by reviewers. Rockstar Juiced Energy Drink Plus Guava receives more reviews than most, with a large number of reviewers saying this is the best-tasting energy drink, in their opinion. It`s the first energy drink to make itself available in 16- and 24-ounce cans, has been in third place behind Red Bull and Monster for a while, but Coca-Cola recently inked a deal to distribute the drink. Rockstar also removed sodium benzoate from their products when the nation found out that it was potentially harmful, as well as removed high fructose corn syrup from their drinks. They added Milk Thistle, which some studies claim helps with hangovers . Caffeine is the largest ingredient in the product.

Monster

Monster Energy is an American brand of energy drink owned by Monster Beverage Co. It has many endorsements with sports people. Monster is available in several different can styles and sizes. It also makes a variety of other flavors, including Monster Energy Lo-Carb (*Est. Monster Energy has 54 grams of sugars, 160 mg of caffeine and 2,000 mg of taurine.

Drinking

Drinking energy is a legal way to be a bit rebellious, without breaking any laws. Drinking a lot of these types of drinks mixed with alcohol can lead to many health risks. Consuming that much caffeine at once can also cause diahorrea in some people. Consuming 2 bottles will not give you a heart-attack, everyone reacts differently to these drinks. Some have had 2 bottles within 30 minutes and didn't feel a thing. It is different for everyone. Drinking half the can or even 1/4 is best for the first second third and even fourth time, you can never get a tolerance to this drink.

Nutrition

The goal of this article is to inform users on some of the popular energy drinks out there, where they can get them, and basic nutrition facts on each one. Nutritionists warn that the drinks, laden with caffeine and sugar, can hook kids on an unhealthy jolt-and-crash cycle. Nutritionally speaking, energy drinks are comparable to soda. Looking at the ingredients, energy drinks appear to be part soft drink and part nutritional supplement. Although commonly marketed like sports drinks, which replenish some important nutrients lost during vigorous exercise, energy drinks have little proven nutritional value. "Children under ten or twelve certainly have no reason to include any caffeine in their diets; caffeine has no nutritional value and drinking caffeinated beverages may reduce consumption of more healthy beverages, like milk and juice. What ever is in these things is driven by consumers, not by a nutritionist or a doctor. But the "nutrition" companies don't even come under the FDA and the ingredients do not have to have a country of origin label. There is little (if any) evidence of nutritional value in most energy drinks.

Research

Researchers warn that people should not confuse energy drinks with sports drinks like Gatorade. Many say a big part of the problem has to do with serving size. Research shows that children and young people who consume energy drinks may suffer sleep problems, bed-wetting and anxiety. But they say the bottom line is that an occasional energy drink is fine for most people, but do the math and avoid over indulging.

Too often, .energy drinks are soft drinks advertised as providing energy to improve physical activity of the drinker, as compared to a typical drink. These drinks are typically attractive to young people. Energy drinks are sometimes mixed with alcohol. Energy drinks' stimulating properties can boost the heart rate and blood pressure (sometimes to the point of palpitations), dehydrate the body, and, like other stimulants, prevent sleep. Energy drinks are not necessarily bad for you, but they shouldn't be seen as "natural alternatives" either.

Eating Disorder Results In Death to Brazilian Model

Diet Coke Nutrition Facts Eating Disorder Results In Death to Brazilian Model.

It has been largely coincidental. On the same day of the movie debut of "Thin" about eating disorders, Brazilian model Ana Carolina Reston died from an infection brought about by anorexia. She was only a mere 21 years old and an attractive model representing for top agencies like Ford. At the time of her death she was 1.72m tall and less than 40 kilos which is 5'7' and 88 pounds.

Her death highlighted about the ills of eating disorders. Even Wikipedia, the premier online encyclopedia, has a listing and a short description about her life and eating disorder. She was said to have lived on apples and tomatoes prior to her hospitalization in October.

She was not the first to have died this year from an eating disorder. The first was Luisel Ramos, 22, who suffered a heart attack some time in August after surviving on lettuce leaves and Diet Coke for three months.

For a long time, Ana Carolina refused to believe that she needed treatment or the fact that she was ill. However, it was clear to her family who observed that she ate very little at meal times but would go to the bathroom after the meal to throw up. Her behaviour is very typical of someone with anorexic symptoms. In many cases, an anorexic person would not seek treatment until the condition is fairly serious. Some even do not seek treatment at all.

Ana Carolina's mother is clearly devastated by the death of her daughter. She now hopes to spread the message that no money brought in a top modeling career is worth the life of a child.

The death of Ana Carolina comes at a time when there is growing concerns about how designers

are propagating the wrong ideas of a body image. It was a fad that started in Los Angeles but which quickly spread throughout the fashion world in the use of size zero models. Clearly, a zero size model would be suffering from some form of anorexia.

More fashion locations, including London, are taking note now. In September, Madrid refused to allow all models with a body-mass-index (BMI) of less than 18, to participate in shows. The World Health Organization considers anyone with a BMI below 18.5 to be underweight. No doubt, the death of Ana Carolina would be used as a case to compel designers to drop models who are too skinny.

The media, including all publishers of fashion magazines, newspapers, advertising agencies, as well as all fashion houses and venues should have a responsibility in promoting healthy ideas. Using anorexic models sends the wrong messages to young girls and women. It is not right to promote the idea of depriving oneself of adequate nutrition so as to achieve a stick thin appearance. Young women should look healthy and glowing. And most certainly, not sickly and ghastly. Nor should they be dying from the damage caused by an eating disorder.

Drink Your Way to a Sweaty Sexy Summer Body

Diet Coke Nutrition Facts Drink Your Way to a Sweaty Sexy Summer Body.

Wait! Don't break out the Bahama Mamas just yet. What you drink has a huge impact on your waistline. In fact, the cure for a huge waistline might be to make a few changes in your eating and drinking habits.

No More Soft Drinks

Whether you call it pop, soda, soda pop, or just a coke, it's really really bad for you. There's absolutely no nutritional value in it, and while it's packed with sinfully delicious sugary calories, it does very little to fill you up. Learn this phrase, "No thanks, I don't really like pop." It's a lifesaver.

Green Smoothies

Like soft drinks, green smoothies pack some calories in the mix. Unlike soft drinks, they are loaded with all kinds of minerals, nutrients, and antioxidants that your body loves. Don't be intimidated by the color. Green smoothies are actually pretty tasty. Making a green smoothie is a snap.

Get a blender, some greens, and some berries or fruit, a banana, and some water. You'll want about a 50/50 mix of fruit and greens. Blend the fruit, banana, and water. Then put in the greens and blend until it looks nice and smooth. Then drink up!

Water

Water is the diet supercharger. It revs up your metabolism. It cleans out a lot of your body's toxins. It keeps you from confusing hunger with thirst which can prevent eating binges. If you (and your bladder) can stand it, you should down 8 8 oz. glasses every day. The frequent bathroom visits will stop within a week or so.

Green Tea

Green tea is just so good for you, I'm going to start listing the reasons why

-kills cancer cells while leaving healthy tissue alone

-antioxidants help the immune system

-kills germs that cause plaque

-boosts metabolism, burning more calories

-greatly lowers the risk of heart disease

Red Wine

I had to include at least one form of booze! They never taught us this in school, but a glass a day keeps the doctor away. Red wine contains reservatrol which combats a lot of the negative effects of consuming too much fat, including weight gain. Don't go trying to get a reservatrol buzz on Friday night. The negative effects of binge drinking far outweigh the positive effects of reservatrol.

Dont Blame Me Its All in My Genes!

Diet Coke Nutrition Facts Dont Blame Me Its All in My Genes!.

Genetics and Weight

There have been great strides made in determining the genetics of obesity. To date, many genes have been attributed to the control of body weight, metabolism, appetite and body fat distribution. To date, over 500 genes have been associated with obesity with 30-40 genetic sites identified as having a very strong link. These genes influence the complex biology of body weight by controlling appetite, metabolism and body fat distribution. Genetic researchers emphasize that weight gain generally occurs when people burn fewer calories than they consume.

Genes, personal choices and a society that encourages high calorie foods and discourages exercise all play a role in body weight. But, genetic differences may explain why some people gain weight despite a healthy lifestyle while others stay lean without exercising much or paying much attention to what they eat. Researchers believe that we can learn a lot from people who are genetically resistant to gaining weight, but currently, there is little practical advice.

Eating Throughout the Years

Because of our genes, our hormonal systems are almost identical to those of our ancient ancestors. Very little has changed over the generations. Unfortunately for us, our environment has changed even if our hormonal systems have not. No longer do we need to forage for nuts and berries; no longer do we need to kill our dinner or go without. There's McDonald's, Snickers bars, bags of Doritos, Ben and Jerry's, and a car to get us to the restaurant or grocery store. "Becoming obese," says obesity expert Dr. James Hill of the University of Colorado, "is a normal response to the American environment."

It's an environment created by the industrial revolution. Before the industrial revolution and all its advances in agriculture, transportation and processing, granulated sugar was extravagance. Ice cream was a delicacy. Anything requiring refrigeration existed only for the wealthy (or those in very cold climates). It all changed almost overnight, given the context of human history: suddenly, high-calorie, high-fat, high-refined sugar foods were inexpensive and readily available.

The Era of "Super-Size Me!"

And we like those foods. We want more; we want more for our money. Think of "super-sizing." A double cheeseburger for 99 cents! A 48-oz. Coke for only a dime more than a 32-oz. Coke!

Seems like a bargain, right? But does "more" mean "better?" We are paying a price for all that "free" extra food. Sugars and fats bombard our delicate hormone systems. Our genes can't keep up with the changes.

Eat like a caveman!

Many nutrition experts today recommend that we eat the way our ancestors did thousands of years ago. Dean Ornish, creator of the diet that bears his name, has said that thousands of years ago "it was survival of the fattest."

But things have changed. Back then the problem was finding enough food to avoid starvation. And different cultures had different diets. The Inuits of northern Canada had (and have) a high-protein, high-fat diet, the better to insulate their bodies during the long, hard winter (the body burns that fat for heat, and keeps itself alive). The ancient tribes of Africa, Mexico and India adhered to a whole-grain, high-carbohydrate diet. Either way, the bottom line was the same: Many different diets resulted in hormonal balance and lean bodies.

But today, we look for a "one-size-fits-all" solution. That's why so many diet books contradict each other. Different authors select the diet of a particular ancient culture to match the diet they're writing about. This anthropological basis for dieting falls short in the fact that it does not take hormones into consideration at all. Obesity today is caused because the food of our civilization disrupts the delicate hormonal balance we are genetically programmed to have.

"Genetics loads the gun. Environment pulls the trigger," says obesity guru George Bray.
